What to Expect
Working with me is different. I work in an intuitive, creative and and highly client centred way which allows plenty of time for you to explore root causes of your problem effectively and set in place the foundations for deep and lasting change. I always like to start with a phone call to get the ball rolling, this allows us to get a feel for if we will work well together (I strongly believe rapport is one of the most important elements to any therapeutic work), and I can help you choose the right treatment option for you. It also gives us a chance to discuss some of the how's and what's in person, so that you know exactly what to expect from your sessions before you commit.
Once we're both happy to we'll arrange for your first session, where we'll go through your problem in detail and, most importantly, we'll figure out where you want to be by the end of the treatment and what the best version of you would look like. Although Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a practical and solution focussed form of therapy, there will be times when past events and challenging memories may come up, but the beauty of this form of therapy is that it can work without having to dredge up all the negative stories of the past or keep getting stuck in them. Our main focus will be on your solution state and getting you to a place where you can truly let go of the negative effects of your problems and past events.
Once I have all the information I need, I'll work out a personal treatment plan that's designed to help get you to this place as quickly and easily as possible. I'm not the type of therapist who wants to keep you in therapy unnecessarily, my aim is to get you to a place where you don't need me anymore at a pace which is suitable for you, so that you can start living the life you want as soon as you can. We'll monitor your progress carefully to make sure that you feel ready to complete this process, and I'll always be here if you need me again in the future. As part of your treatment, I'll create you personalised hypnosis recordings for you to listen to, which help to consolidate and reinforce the work we do in sessions.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is not something I do to you, it will be us working together to change your ways of thinking, behaving and feeling, about yourself and in different situations in everyday life. We'll often do this by guiding your imagination and using visualisation techniques, and don't worry if you think you're not good at this kind of thing, as I'll be there to guide you and help you do this in a way which works for you. So it's not a special power or something that only works for some people, everyone can do this, especially with the right kind of support.
Your progress and recovery time will be completely unique to you and everyone progresses at a different rate. On average the number sessions needed are around 3-6, but it is completely possible that some people will feel they have achieved what they set out to do in 1-2 sessions, and others will need more. However long it takes, we'll stay in touch and monitor your progress and I'll be here to support you should you need another session.
The Everyday Nature of Trance
For a long time the practice of hypnosis has been marred by imagery of stage magicians swinging pocket watches, or getting people to behave in ways they wouldn't normally (cluck like a chicken etc etc...). While these people may be excellent entertainers, this is nothing like what we do, and we would never ask you to do or reveal anything that you did not feel comfortable with. In addition to this, the idea that some people can go into trance and some can't is also a misconception, as this is something that we do everyday, mostly without realising it. For example, we've all had the experience of doing something without realising, like when we get lost in our work or a sport we enjoy, driving or cycling from one place to another and suddenly realising that we don't remember the journey at all. So part of what I will be doing is helping to guide you from negative trance states, to more positive ones where you can begin to see the world, and yourself, in a different and more beneficial way for you. So you don't need any special abilities or skills, just a sense of curiosity about what is possible and the willingness to learn.
We've all heard about how mindfulness can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression and improve our quality of life, but it can be difficult at the best of times to know where to start and how to develop these skills. How You Can Increase Your Chances of Success?
My approach is based on the understanding that everyone is capable of change, and that you already have all of the resources, skills and abilities to overcome your problem, it's just my job you help you access them. Cognitive Hypnotherapy can create rapid change and you may feel huge shifts after each session, but it's important to keep doing the work outside of the sessions, as this is where most of the change will take place. Any therapy is a two way process, it takes commitment from both sides to achieve the results you desire, so listening to the audios and using the tools you are given in sessions will help you to rapidly speed up this process.

I offer a range of options designed to help you get the most out of your treatment. You can choose to opt for face to face or online sessions or a combination of the two, and you can choose to combine these with Mindfulness Coaching at a discounted rate (depending on number of sessions). Discounts for Low Incomes
I believe that everyone should have access to good therapy regardless of their financial situation, and I understand how hard it can be to find the help you need when times are financially tough too. As part of my aim to make therapy accessible for all, I offer 2 highly subsidised places every 8 weeks for people living on benefits, and a sliding scale for those on low incomes. Everyone progresses at a different rate, and so sometimes single sessions may be more suitable. Single sessions last for 1.5-2 hours, in the first session we’ll delve deep into the problem you want to be free of, and together we’ll create the vision of how you want to be when you get there. You will receive personal hypnosis recordings plus a range of resources to targeted specifically for your development, email and telephone support between sessions.
